Pastels are not my jam…

Let me just get this out of the way…outside of the Princess’ room, I am not fond of pastels. Also, I may skirt the borders of the land of whimsy with a few…OK 10…chickens in my kitchen but I have no desire to move completely into cute town. This presents a conundrum  at Easter when the expected decor seems to be pastel hued and bunny driven…is there room for compromise? Can I reflect the beauty of the season and still maintain the integrity of my design style? Join me on a brief tour as we meet these challenges head-on…

image

My antique bottle drying rack embraces the lightening of the season with vintage glass bottles to reflect the glorious afternoon light…

image

And look! Beautiful eggs in various textures and colors…they don’t have to be pastel!

image

A smattering of cute on the mantel with some jewel tone eggs and yellow Vaseline glass candlesticks…a few bunnies go a long way!

imageA small tray of treasures makes an appealing vignette…yes, there is some “cute” and a little pastel but the memories of acquiring each of these pieces makes it a special collection and the perfect example of compromise.

I guess every home needs a bowl of eggs at Easter…these were arranged by the Princess and re-arranged almost daily….hopefully her Easter will be a bit more cheery than last year…

    1. Passing on the tips to my blog photographer(David)! Hopefully soon we will be in a more spacious dwelling…still with character. Our rental has lots of character but not a lot of space. I am finding the blog to be enjoyable and therapeutic…I am glad you are enjoying it as well!

  1. Hi Amy,
That big bunny would scare a lot of little ones, I’m sure. This was a fun post and I enjoyed your decorations. Thank you for sharing with us.

    Blessings,

    1. Pastels just look odd in this foursquare house. I understand the challenges of decorating a small house. It is almost time for military retirement for my husband and hopefully time for my bigger forever house.

  2. I just do a few sheep and lambs. Love the gentle touches of Easter. The giant Easter Bunny would scare me to death!

  3. Ha, ha! Love that last photo. I certainly remember at least one of my kids being afraid of the Easter bunny. Love your gorgeous drying rack and those lamb molds. You do Easter great and love that it’s your style! Thanks for sharing with SYC.

  4. I don’t like pastels, either…here, since we no longer have children to please, I use a few vases of fresh flowers, one bunny that’s brown and a wonderful Easter Family Dinner…xo

  5. So pretty! Who says you have to decorate with pastels for Easter anyway. I love what you’ve done. Thanks so much for sharing at Inspiration Thursday! Have a fantastic week!

  6. You’ve succeeded in doing it your way beautifully. 🙂

For years I didn’t like any pastels At All. Now I’m loving the robin’s egg blue spattered about the house but it’s mixed with deeper colors. It feels good to me now.

So glad to see you early this morning at Thoughts of Home on Thursday.

  8. haha! I love your Easter picture. I didn’t even take my daughter to see the Easter bunny last year because I’m pretty sure she would have been kicking and screaming! Love your decor too! #HomeMattersParty
